Electric Car & Van Servicing

Electric Car Servicing

Electric cars, unlike their petrol or diesel counterparts, are powered by an electric motor and a battery. As an electric vehicle doesn’t have an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), there are fewer moving parts that need to be changed as part of a regular EV car service.

However, just like any other vehicle, electric cars still require regular servicing to ensure they operate at peak performance and that all components that wear, such as brakes, tyres and shock absorbers, are in good working order. Our electric vehicle servicing checks are tailored to the unique needs of electric cars, ensuring your vehicle continues to run as safely and efficiently as possible.

What’s included in our electric car services

If you're driving an electric car, it's essential to note that a specific manufacturer's electric car service may be necessary to maintain your warranty. Therefore, our comprehensive electric vehicle servicing checks are designed to align with the most common inspections found in vehicle manufacturer servicing schedules. Always consult with your warranty provider if you're unsure about your specific EV service requirements.

Every part we fit matches the quality of the original manufacturer's parts. Moreover, unless otherwise stated in the Guarantee Conditions, all parts come with a guarantee for 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever milestone you reach first).

What's the difference between regular servicing and electric car servicing?

Whilst there are fewer parts and fluid changes required on electric vehicles than ICE-powered cars, regular servicing is still key to avoiding costly repairs down the road.

There are some key differences between an electric car service and those for diesel and petrol cars. Electric vehicles have different wear rates for key components. Regenerative braking, for example, is more efficient, which means that there is less wear and tear on the brakes, potentially helping you save on maintenance costs.

Your electric car will also have different maintenance requirements to those of ICE vehicles. EVs, for example, don't require an engine oil change, but still need additional checks for filters or cooling systems to ensure the electric motor is performing efficiently. Electric cars also have unique technologies and equipment that will need to be examined, such as the battery, electric motor and charging cables.

Do electric cars still need servicing?

Just like all vehicles, electric cars still need regular servicing.

Although there are fewer components to check, EVs are still prone to wear and tear, so regular electric car maintenance is still a must. Try to stick to a regular electric car service schedule as you would with a petrol or diesel car. Most manufacturers will highlight recommended service plans in your handbook.

EV Maintenance & Parts

At ATS Euromaster, our highly trained EV technicians can help you with more than just electric car servicing. We can support you with all your electric vehicle needs, from tyre and brake repairs to air con regassing and MOT testing.

We stock an extensive range of EV tyres that are designed to handle the extra weight and torque of electric vehicles. Just like petrol and diesel cars, your electric car will still need its annual MOT test, which our accredited MOT testers can efficiently carry out.

How long does an electric car service take?

An EV car service can take up to 1 hour, depending on the type of service you have booked.

How often should electric cars be serviced?

It's best practice to get your electric car serviced as often as you would with a petrol or diesel car. For example, if you regularly booked a service with your yearly MOT test, it will still be worth doing the same to ensure your electric vehicle remains in top condition.

How much does an electric car service cost in the UK?

EV servicing costs can vary depending on the garage or dealership you use. At ATS Euromaster, an electric car service starts from £135.

Can my local garage service electric cars?

Electric car servicing requires highly trained technicians to carry out the checks correctly. Our technicians have all been trained and are IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) certified. Always check whether your provider is EV-qualified before booking an electric car service.
